(Oakdale, California -- Sept, 2006) SpectSoft LLC., a leading provider of uncompressed video solutions on the Linux platform announced today that Video Post and Transfer – Dallas joins the list of studios who are putting RaveHD to work.
"RaveHD is a tool to a very specific problem", states Ramona Howard, President of SpectSoft. "It's objective is to bridge the gap between film and video and offer it in the least proprietary, standard way we can think of. " With the capability to work in an uncompressed 4:4:4 RGB frame based format (DPX) in real-time, offering full VTR emulation and adding on the capability to bring in 2K images via HSDL form the telecine, RaveHD replaces the need for an expensive SR deck for several aspects of the workflow.
Video Post is one of many studios who has added RaveHD into their workflow and who has followed the products growth over the years, adding them to a distinguished list of studios worldwide. "RaveHD is one of the first products of it's kind to have such a collaborative effort between studios", comments Howard. "Each studio has contributed features, testing and future ideas that make this product truly unique."
Features continue to roll into this open, versatile product. The latest changes include a settings interface for making state files, improvements to the timecode widget, a tool for pulling and adding audio to the DPX header and a JPEG thumbnail push to the GUI . "RaveHD is designed to be easy to use from the GUI but with some very powerful tools built in for automation that are hidden from the typical machine room operator, comments Jason Howard, Lead programmer of SpectSoft. "How easy RaveHD is to integrate and how much can you automate it are always top on the list in our development. Many of our customers want a VTR replacement but with much more freedom than what traditional decks can give them."
Utilizing commodity hardware, RaveHD systems prices start at $19,995 and support from 3TB to 18TB of local storage in a SATA array configuration and offers one of the highest quality video solutions on the market today, addressing many concerns seen by other systems. RaveHD supports uncompressed SD-SMPTE 259M, HD-SMPTE 292M, Dual Link HD(4:4:4)- SMPTE 372M and 2K HSDL for both capture and playback in a single system as well as hardware accelerated upconverting, downconverting and cross-converting. The RaveHD systems feature integrated RS-422 hardware that allows for both slave and master control, LTC support and unlimited scalability with dual 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet in addition to features like frame oriented, standard file system storage and centralized database asset tracking, RP188 (embedded timecode), Varicam flagging support, Conform, and a programmable cadence engine. RaveHD is natively frame-based but does offer some built-in tools for those working with Quicktimes and Avids DNxHD codec.
RaveHD is in use by studios worldwide and has played an integral role in the making of many films. Bridging the film to data gap RaveHD continues to compliment the workflow by natively working in industry standard formats and is the only product of it's kind to supply it's entire source code to it's clients for integration in the process. A product that continues to grow and evolve daily with the help and collaboration of studios worldwide makes this product a valuable asset for us to have onboard.
