SPECTSOFT, LLC AND APPRO TO DEMO NEW LINUX BASED VIDEO DISK DRIVE RECORDER AT THE NAB CONFERENCE, APRIL 7-10, 2003 IN LAS VEGAS.
Broadcasters, film makers, and media professionals flock to see new penguin powered tools for uncompressed, 10bit, high and standard definition digital video.
OAKDALE, Calif. - March 31, 2003 -- SpectSoft, LLC, (http://www.spectsoft.com) a consulting company specializing in Linux based software and hardware solutions for the video, film, and broadcast industries and Appro, (http://www.appro.com) a leading developer of high-density, high-performance servers have announced that they will be demonstrating DDR/EDIT tools from April 7-10 at the National Association of Broadcasters conference (http://www.nab.org/conventions/nab2003/) in booth SL-2519.
DDR/EDIT is a set of software and hardware tools created by SpectSoft, running on Appro servers, that allow for easy import and export of HD and SD video. It is also the first video disk drive recorder product to make its source code available to customers. Thus, allowing the capability to mold the product to their specific needs.
The DDR/EDIT tools are geared toward post-production and broadcast facilities that have a need to import and/or export high quality uncompressed, 10bit, HD or SD video. It incorporates features such as RGB color correction, 2:3 pull-down, RS-422 control, multi-user management/quota control, as well as database oriented, network wide asset management. The video exists on a standard XFS file system as individual DPX, TGA, BMP, or RAW images allowing transparent integration with current high end video pipelines. The file system can be accessed via UNIX NFS, Windows network file share, or FTP. Some examples of current applications are automated capture and export, multiple artist previews, and digital daily creation/compression.
The base price for a 1U, rack mountable, SD system is $8,550, which includes 72 GB (approx. 39min @ 480i30) of high speed internal on-line storage. The SD system is currently scalable to 584 GB (approx. 313min @ 480i30) of internal on-line storage.
The base price of a 2U, rack mountable, HD system is $18,775, which includes 144 GB (approx. 16min @ 1080p24) of high speed internal on-line storage. The HD system is currently scalable to 1.168 TB (approx. 130min @ 1080p24) of internal on-line storage. However, the HD system has near unlimited external storage scalability.
"In this industry it is nearly impossible to provide a single software package that can solve all of the specific DDR needs of our clients", said Jason Howard, VP of Engineering and co-founder of SpectSoft, "One of the greatest benefits of open source software is the ability to fit into one's needs, and that is the approach we took with the DDR/EDIT tools."
The DDR/EDIT software has been certified to run on servers available from APPRO in Milpitas, CA. The HD systems are available in the 2U form factor APPRO 2228X system utilizing SMPTE 292M SDI I/O. "The Appro 2U server family brings a new level of storage capacity to the database, streaming-media, e-mail and proxy/caching servers, delivering a superior combination of storage, computational performance, and reliability", said Daniel Kim, CEO and president of Appro.
The SD systems are available in the 1U form factor APPRO 1124s system utilizing SMPTE 259M SDI I/O. The Appro 1124 server is powered by AMD Athlon MP Processors and offers maximum flexibility, affordability, performance, scalability and great space-optimization. Also, it is a perfect foundation for supercomputing cluster.
Both the SD and HD systems can be made available in alternative configurations if needed. Please contact SpectSoft for more information.
"It has been great working with a company like APPRO," said Jason Howard, "They have been able to meet our rather demanding system specifications."
